Tonight, the Dancing With the Stars dancers had to bring it with two dances each. And the stakes have gotten higher because it’s now unacceptable to just be good. In the semi-finals, they have to be great.
First to dance this week was Jason Taylor and his partner Edyta Sliwinska. They took on a foxtrot and it was truly a joy to behold. Jason has really become a fantastic ballroom dancer over the course of the season and this dance is just one more example of that.

Then, Marissa Jaret Winokur & Tony Dovolani did a really fun quickstep and it looked perfect to me, but I saw her miss one small jump during the dance. Ohter than that, she was wonderful. The judges were not so kind.
Next to dance was Christián de la Fuente & Cheryl Burke with a waltz. He does such a wonderful job that if we didn’t know he had an injured arm, we wouldn’t guess. It was a great dance!
The fourth dance of the night was Kristi Yamaguchi & Mark Ballas with a tango. Her moves are perfection! I think she may be the second-ever female champion for Dancing With the Stars.
Tonight’s competition was fierce and after the first round of dances, the scores looked like this:
Then, Jason Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska took the floor again to do their paso doble. Personally, this is my least foavorite Latin dance to watch. It just looks (and feels!) too contrived for my taste. But they did a spectacular job on it:
Then Marissa & Tony danced a rumba. They did a nice dance, but it was very simple choreography for the semi-finals, Marissa didn’t move her hips as much as I would have expected for a rumba and I think I saw them accidentally do a lift. I’m afraid this wasn’t one of their best dances.
The next dance was a samba with Christián & Cheryl really tearing up the floor. I think the extra challenge of the one-armed dancing has made Christián even better as a dancer. Who knew? (Not to mention how terrific he looks with his shirt open…and that hip action…WOW!)
The final dance of the night was a jive performed by Kristi & Mark. My absolute favorite dance style on this show is always the jive. This jive was extraordinary!! I loved everything about it:
At the end of the night, the scores for the dancers looked like this:
It will be interesting to see who America votes to go home this week. I predict that Marissa will go home, but really anything can happen on this show.
