Zara Phillips will be joining the British equestrian team for the Olympics in Beijing later this year. Only five riders will be representing Britain at the equestrian event.
Last year, Zara rode her horse Toytown to the individual gold at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. Lately, she’s been busy at the Badminton Horse Trials. Last week, she was at Rodbaston College near Penkridge in Wolverhampton (photo). She competed in the dressage, show-jumping and cross-country events. In between events, it seems that she got some time to enjoy a walk with her dogs.
“It is nice to be selected, but we still have a long way to go,” Phillips said. “I am lucky in that Toytown has been to championship events before, so he knows about big occasions and has been consistent, but an Olympic Games really is special.”
Zara is not the first in her family to become an Olympian. Mark Phillips, her father, won a gold medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. Princess Anne competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
